Transport in Australia is a highly significant part of the infrastructure of the economy, with large distances between populated areas and a very low population density. Both the road and rail networks are extensive. Australia has one of the lowest populations of the countries in the Transport Statistics Programme at 20 million, second smallest only to the Czech Republic. It has the highest percentage of its population resident in the urban areas
