Brazil has been one of the most difficult countries for which to get data. The Transport Statistics database includes data on population, length of roads, and stock of vehicles. Some information has been included for road accident fatalities (although issues with the under-reporting of accidents in the official statistics, as raised by the WHO means that caution should be used when interpreting the trends). Nothing significant could be found on traffic, travel, energy use, environmental standards for vehicles, or costs of travelling.

Brazil has one of the lowest levels of car ownership amongst all the countries included in the database, with just 23 million cars in total, equating to 140 per 1000 population. Only India and China have fewer per person.
